Weekend Fun!

As usual, it's been super busy around our house! I had forgotten how much you can truly get done on a weekend until I was faced with what I didn't get done last weekend while Scott and I were out of town. That's right, you read it correctly, we were out of town without the kids! I have to give a huge "thanks" to those who helped take such great care of our kids as we headed to the Lake of the Ozarks for Scott's company holiday party. We enjoyed a nice weekend at his boss's beautiful home there. We ate, drank, played pool, drank, ate, played shuffleboard, drank, ate, played darts, sat in the hot tub, drank and ate!  Bill and his wife are amazing hosts and we always have a great time with them. The kids enjoyed their weekend as well.

Friday night, our friends Troy and Heather, stayed at our house with the kids. They are soon-to-be first time parents and from what I hear, after watching our kids, they are now considering only having one child :) The kids took full advantage of the rookies. The boys completely exhausted Troy, and he fell asleep only an hour after the kids did. Miss Thang charmed Heather by telling her she hasn't slept with her bedrail up since Christmas time. Heather believed her. Why wouldn't she, right? Needless to say, Troy heard her whimpering in the middle of the night and found her on her bedroom floor. He picked her up and slept in her twin bed for awhile with her. Saturday, the kids shifted gears to take full advantage of the grandparents. Scott's parents came down from Peoria and stayed with the boys for the night, while my dad came and picked up Miss Thang to go to her cousin's bowling party. She got to spend the night at his house since well before my mom passed away. I don't even think she remembers ever staying there to be honest because she said she had never spent the night there. The grandparents either don't tell us the things the kids get away with while we are gone or they just have a little more control than the rookies:) However, we do know that the boys told Mawmaw C that they sit in the regular chairs at the table instead of their booster seats. Just one time is all it took and now still today we are fighting the battle to get them to sit in their own chairs! My dad did admit that doing her hair was a little troublesome and that she had a headband in. Turns out the headband is an old one of mine that doesn't fit her head and totally didn't match her outfit, and she did not have a coat with her. That's exactly what grandparents are for and we are lucky to have 3 great ones and one that we miss terribly. Who knows what they could have convinced her to do with them!

Once we returned, we realized very quickly that we should have gotten more rest while we were gone! As I slowly caught up throughout the week, I was blessed with a snow day on Thursday! The snow was absolutely beautiful and SIUE closed for the day. After some gazing at the snow through the window and a wrestling match, we played outside.

This was the first time the boys had played in the snow. We don't really have "snow suits" for any of the kids, so I did the next best thing: 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of sucks and some rubber boots. Plus a hat and 2 hoods each. They had a great time. After 45 minutes of getting them dressed, I feared they would be ready to come back in after 1 minute of playing. Luckily, they lasted much longer. This weekend, we are just catching up! Next weekend, on the road again, all of us!
